Resident Spotlight: Todd and Nancy Markum

June 3, 2019

Meet the Markums. Todd and Nancy are no strangers to so many in the Oklahoma City metro by any stretch of the imagination. More than likely you either know them, know part of their family or know someone that knows them. If this is the first time you meet them, you leave knowing a couple of items: #1- Todd loves his football and #2- Nancy loves people. Both of them together, we promise you leave the encounter with a smile on your face.

Todd was born and raised in Clinton, OK with his two siblings, “Neil” and Alan who have passed within the last few years.  After graduating high school in Clinton, OK, Todd went on to the University of Oklahoma to become a Sooner. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1962 and completed a Juris Doctorate degree in 1965. Todd is also an alumni member of the fraternity, Phi Gama Delta (Fiji).

After obtaining his law degree he went to work with the Oklahoma City Attorney’s office in Oklahoma City. He also spent some of his professional years working in the Oklahoma Attorney General’s office. The remainder of this professional career he spent time in his successful private practice.

Todd also chose to serve his country through the Army Reserve Branch for eight years.

Nancy was born in Oklahoma City at the Wesley Hospital and grew up in Wichita Falls, TX graduating from Wichita Falls Senior High School. Nancy’s parents found themselves dedicated to the oil business. Nancy, a Tri-Delt, attended Texas Christian University receiving a certificate of Secretarial Sciences. Professionally, Nancy spent several years working for industrial engineers at General Dynamics.

Nancy was a fashion model in northern Texas for several years. In addition to modeling, Nancy found herself working with some very high-profile attorney firms in the Oklahoma City area, one being the Philips/Murrah firm. She retired in 2005, which was not really retiring because she always enjoyed having her own side business.

Todd and Nancy met at a mutual friend’s party and were married shortly after. During their 49 years of marriage, they raised three children, Brad and Stuart Graham and Amy Reid. They have 7 grandchildren who they enjoy keeping up with their activities.

Family and faith are very important to who these dear people are! The Markums have been members of the Church of Christ for over 50 years.

For some, working with a spouse can cause a strain on a marriage, however, for Nancy, who was supposed to work for her husband’s firm just for a couple of months to clean up things, it lasted for over 10 years and she enjoyed this time!

The Markums have always wanted to retiree at Tealridge. For as long as they remember, when asked about retirement years, they said they were going to Tealridge. They are truly enjoying their new home here, and are happy to be able to welcome old and new friends to the community. You will often see Nancy grabbing anyone that enters the front door and escorting them on a tour of the community.

As we mentioned earlier, there is an important thing to know about the Markums: that every conversation ends in a smile and often a chuckle. We are delighted that Todd and Nancy have decided to come join our community.
