February Is American Heart Month

February 9, 2017

heart in heart hands- warm backgroundFebruary, the month of love. As we take time to remember and honor those we love, don’t forget to show yourself a little tender love and care. In February we’re celebrating American Heart Month by giving you the tips, according to Northwest Pharmacy, that can help keep your ticker strong and healthy.

  1. Is salt breaking your heart? While salt can taste oh, so good, it tends to sneak up on us in dangerous amounts in processed, restaurant and fast foods. The total daily recommended salt consumption is 2.4 grams, equivalent to one teaspoon. So why settle for salt when you can do so much better? Go for garlic powder, oregano, paprika, or even fresh lime juice next time you sit down to eat.
  2. Love takes time. Whip your heart into shape by giving 30 minutes a day to physical activity. Get your blood pumping with a brisk walk, bike ride, or dancing. Your heart, mind, and waistline will thank you.Consult your doctor before starting a new physical fitness plan.
  3. Love is more than a feeling. Make a commitment to heart health today. Little changes can make a big difference. Whether it’s choosing oregano instead of salt or committing to a 30 minute walk instead of a 30 minute TV program, taking action today can lead to a healthier, stronger heart for your future.

Love yourself this month by setting your heart up for success. How are you making heart health a priority in your life today?
